It’s incredibly ironic that people who are a member of a fandom that’s about a movie about social media expected that fandom to stay magically secret on the internet without anyone noticing.

You live on the internet. Did you really think nobody on Gawker was going to write a stupid article about you? People have been writing mainstream media articles about Harry Potter slash fandom since back when 90% of it was password protected.

Fandom is not really a secret. The only reason more mainstream media doesn’t acknowledge it exists is because they don’t want to draw more attention to it when there isn’t a way for them to deal with it, even though it makes them feel very uncomfortable.
